The owners of this garden live by sustainability ethos. They wanted their garden to reflect this. – Growing their own food organically, attracting bees and other pollinators, and re-using what was already there. Fruit trees, vegetables, native plants and a love of flowers has led to the creation of a unique inner-city garden.
A productive potager replaced a large unloved lawn. Vegetables, herbs and flowers grow within raised macrocarpa planters. With low-maintenance hoggin (crushed limestone) underfoot giving a rustic look.
New fruit trees, flowering shrubs, perennials and fluid grasses were added, complementing the existing mature feijoa, nikau and pohutukawa. With bluestone rocks re-used to define the garden bed edges.
Even with this abundance of plants there is always room for the owner to sow seasonal flowers for cutting. In this eclectic kitchen garden there is never a dull moment or boring season.
